Attendance and Absence

Absence owing to illness

If your child is absent from school due to illness please contact the school office by phone to report the reason. We also ask that on their return to school you provide a note detailing the reason for our records.

If your child has had a stomach upset please keep them at home until at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea. This is the recommended time from the Health Protection Agency and is to prevent cross infection.

When your child returns to school please ensure that they are fully well. We regret that we are unable to administer non prescription medicines such as Calpol. If you child needs such medicine during the school day then they really shouldn’t be at school. Please see the Managing Medicines Policy page for full details.

Attendance

There are 175 days each year when your child is not in school. Absence for any reason during term time interrupts a child’s education and disrupts educational progress. We aim to minimise the amount of time lost to term-time absences in order to maximise the educational potential of every child. This can be achieved with the support of parents/carers by ensuring holidays in term time are not taken in school time unless there are exceptional circumstances.

The law about school attendance has recently changed (September 2013). Please see the letter below from the Local Authority about the changes.
