Mathematics is taught on a daily basis from Early Years up to Year 6. Teachers use teaching blocks and unit plans to plan lessons for their individual classes. Our aim is to develop children’s mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills and to inspire in them a love of and interest in mathematics.  We aim to help children to develop the confidence to use their mathematical knowledge and skills in everyday situations.

Classrooms have supportive displays, as well as areas with mathematical equipment for the children to use.

Practical activities are carried out throughout the school to bring maths to life and ensure real life skills are put into context whenever possible.

Children receive maths homework on a regular basis which links to the work that has been carried out in the class that week.
See also our Written Calculation Policy, which explains how written methods are developed from Early Years to Year 6.
