History is taught from reception through to year six using a creative, cross curricular approach based on the National Curriculum programmes of study. We offer children learning opportunities which will develop skills in historical enquiry, knowledge and understanding through a varied and engaging breadth of study.

In reception, children will begin to gain an understanding of history and chronology relating to themselves and their lives.

Children build on this experience through their topic work in KS1 beginning to explore people and events beyond living memory. They begin to make comparisons between ‘now’ and ‘then’ and start to ask and answer questions using historical language.

In KS2, children develop their knowledge and understanding of historical figures and events by investigating and posing questions about the past. They develop their understanding of chronology by studying different periods of history and identifying these on a timeline.
